Under a Peruvian sky...

Hi guys,

How are things? Not too bad here. Well, I was actually sick again yesterday, so we cancelled the tour to the sacred valley. Spent the day doing nothing, watching telly, looking at the rain and thinking that we were far better indoors than under the pouring rain. A great day of holiday. All this only because the restaurant we went to after we wrote our last article was crap. It was pretty late and we only wanted a soup. The problem here is that the full menu is cheaper than the soup. The restaurant seemed OK at first sight. That was only appearances. We waited about half an hour to get the starter. Meanwhile I had fought with a cockroach wandering on the table. Gooey ! Then, when I finished my soup I shouted : "Carole, get your feet off the floor!". She did so, and she was right. Mickey mouse was running from the kitchen towards her bag...Then came the pancakes. They tasted like they had been prepared two weeks ago. I think that´s why I got sick. Carole wasn´t feeling good either when going to bed. The service was so slow that a group of 7 at the table next to ours left. They had been waiting over an hour for a beer!

Anyway, we rested yesterday and today we decided to take advantage of the few rays of sun in days. We went to the site of Saqsaywuman. Try to pronounce that quickly. Yes, that´s it "Sexy woman"! It consists of the ruins of an Inca temple where they used to worship the sun. It´s fairly big and very impressive. The guide told us that the Inca king used to sit in a golden throne, facing the sun and supervising the "olympic games" of that time. The site was destroyed by the Spanish and they used the stones to build the cathedral. We were right on top of the mount when it starting raining, again. We found shelter under a big rock and waited there. After 40 mins, when we realised that the rain wouldn´t stop we ran from Saqsaywuman, jumping from rock to rock, to the already flooded streets of Cuzco. That was the tour of the day...

We spent the rest of the afternoon in the market, buying coca leaves (I´ve already told you it´s no drug! it´s for the altitude) water and energy snacks for the trek of the Inca Trail, tomorrow. Having packed everything for the trek we went to a new restaurant, with no insects and no rodents. Carole was so shocked by our last experience that instead of asking for a "cucharra" (a spoon) for the soup, she asked for a "cucarracha" (coackroach)! The waiter smiled and assured that there was no such creepy crawlees in the restaurant.

Before saying goodbye, I would like to wish you all a Merry Christmas. May Santa Claus bring you all you wish for and make your dreams come true. Please, if you see him, tell him that Carole and I are in the Machu-Picchu, just in case he can´t find us!

Merry Christmas!
