Seven years in Tibet
Hello everyone,
Here´s a short summary of what happened today in "Lost in South America" : Our two heroes, Carole and David, started the day very early (09:00 a.m) to catch a bus at 10:30 to Cacheuta. Cacheuta is in the region where "Seven Years in Tibet" was shot. I actually have no idea why the movie wasn´t shot in Tibet rather than South America (maybe they had printed the cover and wouldn´t change it to "Seven Years in South America"!!!) anyhow, the landscape is breathtaking. As I mentioned in the previous episode (in French) they wanted to walk a few hours today as they had been eating like pigs the day before and of course they had to get rid of all those calories not to look like whales on the beach.
It´s under a bright blue sky that they started their trek, climbing up the mountain "Cerro de la Virgen" with its big statue of the Virgin Mary. Argentinean are mostly catholics so you would find Christian icons and statues almost everywhere: on the buses, in the shops, in the churches (that makes sense, doesn´t it ? and in the mountains). After a 20 min walk with 40 degrees, at around midday and under a burning sun, the young couple had already lost two or three kilos and seen a few mirages. They kept the pace for about two and
a half hours and then suddenly a miracle happened: they remembered that Cacheuta was not only a gorgeous site for trekking but that there were hot springs too! In less than 2 hours they were in a swimming pool, resting and sunbathing. A paradise ! Carole and David spent the rest of the day doing nothing. That´s what I call a good holiday break ! I don´t know about you guys, but I think that was well deserved.
Back in Mendoza, they couldn´t wait to see more of this great continent, so they bought their tickets to La Rioja for tomorrow at 22:50. In the next episode you´ll follow our dear backpackers wander in the city center and maybe finish what they had started on their first day in Mendoza: visit the huge park.
