Previously on "Lost in South America"
Hi everybody,
We received thousands of emails from our fans requesting that we write in English about our adventure in South America. I have good news : I´m doing it now ! As I´m a bit late for the English part, I´ll have to summarise the previous episodes.
Episode 1 : Leaving France.
As most of you know, we decided in July to leave the Emerald Island of Ireland for a 4 month trip in South America (Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Peru). We spent September in Brittany and got ready for the departure on the 9th of October.
Episode 2 : Itinerary
Regarding the itinerary, we only have a vague idea of which countries we´re going to visit. For the moment the plan would be :
- 14/10/06 Buenos Aires and Iguazu
- 16/10/06 From Asuncion (Paraguay) to Rio de Janeiro
- 28/10/06 From Sao Paulo to Buenos Aires
November and December, Chile et Peru then Mexico in January.
Episode 3 : Arrival
After a 12 hour flight from Madrid to Buenos Aires, an amazing ride in a cab with a crazy taxi driver, we eventually arrived at our friend´s place (Aude). It was time to rest a little and we had our first taste of Argentina, the "maté" (some kind of herbal tea) served in a little pot that you share with all the guests. You drink through a metal tube (no, no, I know what you think, it´s no drug ! Only herbs). Not too bad. It was nice to have Aude in BA, she was very welcoming and she made the transition Europe-South America a bit smoother.
The next day we visited Buenos Aires starting with "Retiro" where the bus station is, as we needed to get our tickets to Posadas (on the way to Iguazu falls). Good start : we wanted to take the subway and ended up in a train ! Oh, that´s why we´re not actually "under ground" ! Luckily enough, there´s also a train station in Retiro. So we managed to get the tickets to Posadas for the 12th of October in those business class buses. In the afternoon we visited microcentro and the famous plaza de Mayo (see photographs on the french version of the blog :) We also walked along the old quays and we admired a magnificent 3-mast boat. Upon our return, Aude gave us some delicious cake "dulce de leche", another speciality from BA. Yummy !
